For 150 years, we, Windmühlenmesser, have been a symbol of quality and durability. Our history has been marked by challenges and opportunities, but our passion for excellent craftsmanship has carried us through all these years.
Paul Herder summed up the essence of our knives with the words "Thin, tough, nail-proved, with a razor-sharp edge, each bearing a label, only real with the red stripe". This quote expresses what a knife from our company stands for: Solingen thin grinding, long-lasting sharpness, easy resharpening and high quality.
More than the products themselves, it is the people behind "Windmühlenmesser" who make the difference. Generations of craftsmen have invested their time and energy into the windmill to continue the tradition of knife craftsmanship.
In an ever-changing world, our 150-year history shows that honest commitment and good quality endure. We are grateful for the support of our loyal customers and look forward to continuing to make high quality products for you and being part of your kitchen culture. The following pages will give you an insight into the history of the Robert Herder company.
There are many Herders, but only one windmill.
With this in mind, we wish everyone a happy future.
